Each guide covers one part of the planning. Read them in order, or go straight to the one you need right now.

The problem

What actually goes wrong

  1. The budget goes over without anyone noticing.

Service charges, sales tax, tips and overtime usually aren't in the quotes. Together they add 9 to 15 percent to the total.

  2. The schedule falls apart before the ceremony.

Hair and makeup runs 45 minutes late and everything after it shifts. Family photos eat into your couple portraits, and by the time you get outside the best light is gone.

  3. Guests stand around with nothing to do.

You'll be away taking photos for most of cocktail hour. If nothing is planned for that time, your guests just wait.

  4. Contracts get signed without a proper read.

Nobody checks who replaces the photographer if they get sick, what overtime costs, or when the photos will be delivered. Most couples find out on the day, or months later.

The same problems come up at wedding after wedding, and most of them can be avoided if you know about them early.

The numbers

What a wedding actually costs

  • $34,200the average cost of a US wedding.
  • $292per guest, at an average of about 117 guests.
  • 28%of couples go into debt for it, about $8,000 on average.

2026 figures from the largest US wedding surveys, as used in Section 3.

Try the math

Your guest list is your budget

The number of guests affects your budget more than the venue or the dress. Move the slider to see how much.

117
Rough total $28,500 – $38,500
  • Fixed: photo, video, music, attire, rings
  • Per guest: food, drinks, rentals, cake, stationery

Each guest adds roughly $150 to $200. Inviting 20 fewer people would pay for a videographer.

Rough estimate based on Section 3: about $11,000–$15,000 in fixed costs plus $150–$200 per guest. The Budget Tracker calculates it with your own numbers.

The Wedding Budget Tracker

You fill in the white cells and the grey cells calculate automatically. Start with the Guest Math tab, because most of the other numbers depend on it.

Your total, where the money goes, upcoming payments and who is paying for what.
Guest Math
Shows what one guest costs you and how much you'd save with ten fewer.
Vendors & Payments
One row per vendor with your estimate, the actual quote, deposits paid and due dates.
Hidden Costs & Tips
Service charges (usually 18–24%, and not the same as tips), sales tax, tips, overtime and a buffer.

  3. Ceremony
  4. Family photos at the church12 groupings × 3 minutes = 36 minutes.
  5. Cocktail hour begins as guests arriveIt starts without you. That's normal.
  6. Ten minutes aloneA room, a door, two chairs, two plates of cocktail hour food. Non-negotiable.

Google Sheet

The Day-Of Timeline

A complete wedding day, minute by minute, from hair and makeup at 8 AM to the send-off. Type over the example and it becomes yours.

  • Your day on the left, everything your coordinator runs on the right
  • A named owner for every moment, so nothing depends on you on the day
  • Any row marked "golden hour" turns gold by itself
  • The coordinator's half prints on its own, with the times mirrored

The buffer rules from Section 2 sit right under the table, so you build your day the same way the guide does.

What makes it different

What you won't find in a free checklist

  1. The Contract Check

A prompt you paste into an AI tool like ChatGPT together with your vendor contract. It tells you what's missing before you sign.

  2. The costs nobody quotes you

A separate tab for everything that isn't in vendor quotes: service charges, tips, overtime, sales tax and the marriage license.

  3. Real 2026 US figures

All prices come from the largest US wedding surveys and are up to date for 2026.

  4. Budgeting by guest

The average guest costs about $292. The guide shows you why that number matters more than any other line in your budget.

Honest fit

Who it's for, and who it isn't

It's for you if

  • You're planning your own wedding, without a planner.
  • The wedding is in the US.
  • You want someone to tell you plainly what matters and what doesn't.
  • You'd rather sort out problems before the wedding than on the day.

It's not for you if

  • You've hired a full-service planner. They'll handle most of this.
  • You're looking for inspiration. There are no mood boards or color palettes in here.
  • You're getting married outside the US. The costs and contract advice are for the US.
  • You need legal advice. The contract section helps you read a contract, but it doesn't replace a lawyer.

Questions

Before you buy

Do I need a Google account?

Only for the two spreadsheets, and a free account is enough. You open the link, click "Make a copy", and the sheet is saved in your own Drive. The PDFs work on any device without an account.

Is this for US weddings?

Yes. All costs are in US dollars and based on 2026 US figures, and the advice on tipping, customs and contracts is written for the US. The timeline and program sections are useful anywhere, but the numbers won't match other countries.

Can I print it?

Yes. The PDFs are US Letter size and print well at home. If you only print a few pages, start with the vendor questions in Section 6 and the emergency kit list in Plan B.

Is it a physical book?

No. It's a digital download: eight PDFs and two Google Sheets. Nothing ships.

When do I get access?

Right after checkout. You get an email with the download link for the PDFs and the links to copy both spreadsheets. If it hasn't arrived within ten minutes, check spam, then email support@oneperfectdayguide.com.

What if my wedding is next month?

That's fine, and it's a good time to read it. Start Here tells you what to focus on based on how much time you have left. With a month to go, read the Day-Of Timeline, the Program and Plan B (66 pages in total), and use the timeline sheet as your starting point.

Can I share it with my partner?

Yes. One purchase covers both of you. You can share the spreadsheets from your Drive like any other Google Sheet, so you're both working with the same numbers. Please just don't post the files publicly or pass them on to other couples.

Why is it $39 right now?

It's a limited-time price. When the countdown on this page runs out, the price goes up to $99.

Can I get a refund?

No. Because it's a digital download and you keep all the files right away, all sales are final. You can look through real pages from the guide further up this page before you buy. If a file doesn't arrive or won't open, email support@oneperfectdayguide.com and we'll sort it out.
